Leave case managers and employers are constantly being bombarded with new information. This includes new leave laws, updates to existing leave laws and much more! Along with these changes and updates made in 2019, we also saw opinion letters produced by the US Department of Labor (DOL).  

The Wage and Hour Division of the DOL often generates model forms and opinion letters for case managers and employers on topics such as the FMLA. To help you stay compliant, we've written a brief summary of the three DOL opinion letters from 2019:

Top Takeaways From Ultimate Software's HR Workshop For Leave Managers

Our parent company, Presagia, recently attended a human resources workshop by their partner, Ultimate Software. The talks featured at this workshop were stimulating, encouraging and educational, which is why we want to share them with you! 

There was a lot of useful information, everything from how the workplace is changing to boosting company morale! We thought that this information, including how employee disengagement leads to absenteeism, would be crucial for leave managers to know, as absenteeism impacts all areas of an organization, from decreased resources to lost revenue. 

To help establish a workplace that is more positive, with reduced absenteeism, we're sharing the top lessons that leave managers need to be aware of.

We’ve all read or heard about the unbelievable stories of employees who abuse and misuse the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Take for instance the California employee who used their FMLA leave for a fishing trip, then was caught on their co-worker's Facebook live video! It's these cases that leave you wondering, "why would anyone do such a thing?" These cases of misuse aren't entirely limited to employees, employers are guilty of abusing or denying FMLA and ADA as well.

Luckily, a great resource for information on the FMLA, along with other labor legislation including the Fair Labor Standards (FLS) is the US Department of Labor (DOL)! The DOL's Wage and Hour Division often produces model forms and opinion letters for employers, case managers and even employees on those topics, to help with their compliance and understanding.
